Not sure what the theme will be but I think that this ends up being a family thrill coaster. More Hagrid's and less VelociCoaster.

No I'm just suggesting ways to clean up the entrance to the park and the Minion Land theming. Put in a play area there or something.

Just do the plans as is and repalce Villain Con.
What about a drop ride for Ghostbusters?

Tower of Terror fits in perfectly

Pretty crazy how quick the announcement came after the permits! September is a good long while though, so still quite a bit of time still for fans to appreciate HRRR.

This makes so much sense. No real reason to have two underutilized live entertainment venues. Use the back venue for all events. Plus, it moves those space crushing music crowds to the back of the park where they are less intrusive. And a nice space in the front to expand the DM/Minion presence in some manner.

This theme question is a catch-22.

On one hand, F&F lends itself much better to a minimally-themed, high-thrill coaster (because nondescript, vaguely industrial, back-of-house areas are a fine proxy for any number of urban environments seen in those movies). And it would pave the way for getting Supercharged out of the park and opening up that plot for something deserving of the space.

On the other hand, Ghostbusters is the much more exciting, beloved, long-lasting brand that should have significant theme park representation. But I'd argue that a minimally-themed, high-thrill coaster is not really the ideal attraction type for it.

if universal did a survey of replacing rock it with either Ghostbusters or fast and furious coaster,
most people would probably pick Ghostbusters?

Most people would probably pick Fast and Furious. I know some people here don't wanna hear it but the Fast and Furious franchise is way more popular and relevant than Ghostbusters. Just compare the box offices of the last 2 ghostbusters films to the last couple of F&F films, there is a HUGE difference.

GHOSTBUSTERS sold more tickets* than any of the FAST AND FURIOUS movies have.

It has also been a constant presence in the world of licensed merchandise, and has launched several spin-off cartoons and video games. F&F has launched none of that, nor does it inspire merchandise.

*Domestically, because international box office was a much, much smaller component in the 1980s than in the modern era, so you can't compare by international metrics.

A good coaster will draw crowds, regardless of IP. I really don’t think any coaster is going to push merch sales to the point it’d absolutely make sense for one IP vs another, minus giant IP’s like Potter, Nintendo, Star Wars, those giants. A Ghostbusters store has WAY more potential to sell items than Fast and Furious could, and Fast and Furious already has a ride at USF.

This is where I land.

Ghostbusters would make a fantastic, fully realized, dark ride experience. Do that.

F&F is perfect for a coaster. Do that.

Yeah but it's also not the 1980s anymore. F&F definitely does inspire merchandise and there is a lot of people who love cars in general.

It’s also not the mid-2010s anymore when F&F (imo) peaked in popularity. But even then, while they were clearly big international event films, I don’t think you can argue they’re as embedded in the culture as Ghostbusters is.

Even if it peaked in popularity in the 2010s, today it is still more relevant and popular than the Ghostbusters franchise, especially with international visitors which the parks in Orlando have to somewhat cater too.

Martin on WDWMagic seems to believe it’s F&F so I’m inclined to believe it’s so. Ghostbusters is a great idea but for now I think it’s just hopium.

a Ghostbusters coaster could still have an amazing queue. look at gringotts, the queue is almost cooler than the ride. they could put animatronics and stuff and have slimer all over the queue flying around.

I'm only saying that people would pick Ghostbusters just because the park already has a fast and furious ride and because Ghostbusters would be ",new" and different and interesting.

besides the huge nostalgia and good feelings over the franchise.

I honestly would prefer Ghostbusters to be the retheme. Because regardless if the RRR replacement is F&F or not, Supercharged still won't be going away anytime soon. They have too many other projects to focus on right now. Also I think it would be a bit redundant to have two F&F rides in the park... I know that's going to be the case in Hollywood but at least over there it's not a full on attraction it's just a part of the Studio Tour. Actually on further thought, I would take ANY other IP over F&F for whatever replaces RRR. Minions, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future... literally so many better options. Also options that would sell more merch than F&F IMO.

Logistically, you'd think they would want their concert venue as close to the gates as possible for easy in and out.

I can see something like mission breakout but that would require a tall building that will seem out of place, to me.

I would push back at Ghostbusters being a more popular IP, even with F&F waning. It certainly has its popularity in the Universal community but in general, it feels like the 80s nostalgia era is on its way out.
