Putting an IP on a largely bare coaster is the definition of “slapping an IP onto a project for the sake of it.” Also, the giant outdoor coaster at the parks entrance IS the draw - it doesn’t need an IP on the sign. If big outdoor coasters can’t draw a crowd without an IP attached, Uni should stop building them and focus on rides that fully leverage valuable IPs.

I’d argue that’s not true and there are plenty of examples. We don’t even know the layout or theming to call it a ‘bare coaster’.

GB has plenty of potential. This isn’t just about pulling crowds from CityWalk; it’s about driving national and international visitation, which is exactly why HHN isn’t 100% original houses.

Racers doesn’t need an IP because it’s surrounded by four IP-based lands that do the heavy lifting for it. The general public visiting EU isn’t coming for Racers.

This, however, needs an IP to draw people in—that’s simply the reality of today’s industry. We’re mostly beyond the times of just slapping an IP onto a project for the sake of it.

Wouldn't the fact that HRRR is consistently one of the busiest and highest rated attractions at USF negate your latter point? People don't go on Rip Ride to listen to Darude - Sandstorm, they go because big coaster go loop.

We will probably get an IP, but it doesn't need one.

No, not at all. HRRR is a cool-looking coaster right at the park entrance, so of course it has a queue—but no one is traveling to UOR specifically to ride it.

Despite this I’m not desperate for an IP I don’t actually believe everything needs one. But the goal here isn’t just increasing capacity—it’s about drawing in guests. These days, an IP does that far better than a big loop. It’s about what works for marketing and driving visitation.

I'm gonna place my bets now on an Intamin multi-launch vertical launch coaster. Standard launch into the CityWalk portion of the layout, then a vertical launch where Rockits lift hill is. If this were any other plot of land I'd be predicting a drifting coaster like Hollywood Drift, but the plot is too narrow in the middle to make for good Drift elements.

I’d think they’ll try to replicate Rockit’s iconic loop behind the music plaza stage- that has somewhat become an icon for the park in marketing

IP rides can get a gift shop and merch.

Non-IP rides do not.

And this is why I think the coaster is going to be Ghostbusters. They already have somewhere that can sell F&F merch. As much as people hate it, it’s going to stick around for another five years at least (HRRR replacement for 26/27; Simpsons replacement for 28/29) and, by that point, F&F is ostensibly a dead franchise. Ghostbusters appears to be ramping up again with a broader, family friendly vibe.

An attached IP or not doesn't matter to me when the coaster it's replacing is so bad. Theme it to Barney for all I care.

I am also in the boat of wanting the F&F franchise to die and stay dead, and a Ghostbusters coaster sounds genuinely interesting and I hope they go for that. But thrill junkies love high speed coasters and could care less about the IP attached, so if the coaster does wind up being F&F, I doubt they will think too much into it even after the IP (F&F) is long gone.

Ghostbusters makes sense. As for the blue color scheme? Wasn't the Chris Farley ghost from Afterlife blue?

I was going to say that a family friendly IP would lead to a more tame coaster but family coasters ain't what they used to be:

everyone says " i prefer a dark ride for Ghostbusters over a roller coaster" but what if is a situation where it's either a Ghostbusters roller coaster now, or nothing,
either uni makes this Ghostbusters coaster, or we never see anything related to Ghostbusters in the park?
( just because making a dark ride would take too long and be more difficult)

having two fast and furious rides would be overkill, too much
but a Ghostbusters roller coaster would bring so much variety.

I’m certainly not going to complain about a high quality coaster coming in, so that’s not my point. I just see USF as the more “chill” Universal park in terms of rides, and always have. I don’t think this park needs a Velocicoaster/Stardust Racers type coaster when Mummy exists. I’m always a proponent for more shows, when rain and extreme heat exist I’d rather them add a show here rather than another rollercoaster.

But, if we must get one then I’d love for it to be Ghosbusters. Make a fun interactive queue and add characters to the parks and that’s a win.

Oh yes, obviously. But HRRR is just so bad in my eyes that nearly any replacement would be better is my point. :)
