Marketing mustn't think the details of the event drive advanced ticket sales, and they'd be right for most of us on here lol.

We do know what 7 of the mazes are, and at least 3 of the scarezones at least.

Was it just me or were they hinting at a compilation maze of years past?

Considering they're bringing back the announcement event like they've done pre-pandemic, it makes sense they're keeping the new mazes and whatnot for that.

Speaking of which, if anyone wants to attend the announcement event on Aug. 27th, tickets go on sale for $20 on Monday, July 31st at 10am.

Last time they did this they were free. What a pathetic money grab.

I remember covering the maze announcement for scary farm nearly a decade ago and something that really impressed me was how passionate the fan base was and how well Knott’s cultivated that relationship with events like this. it stinks that they’re monetizing an event that previously felt like earnest outreach to their biggest fans.

Same, it's a little disappointing to see, but at least it's for a year where we're getting a crazy amount of new content and original ideas, and if this helps that trend continue in any way I think it's a fair trade-off, even if it's still a bit unfortunate.

with the obvious disclosure I have no insight into knott’s books … I would be very skeptical about the idea that new streams of revenue are being directed back towards creative. that is not always how this works.

I am as well, but I try my best to be optimistic lol.

I'm sure the unfortunate reality is that Cedar Fair is just capitalizing on the fact that people will be forking over money for Scary Farm's 50th Anniversary. It does feel like a depressing turning point that the announcement presentation is no longer free, I know that if I lived in CA I would have gone every year, bur people will pay for it.

I've felt underwhelmed with some of the past presentations, even watching from a YouTube stream, so I guess my main point was that this year seems like the potential for a solid presentation with tons of info and tidbits that doesn't just feel like a cheat of $20.

Though the announcement event seems to have some additional inclusions and experiences at least (on top of previous year's offerings?). So maybe the $20 fee is to regulate demand. I get it that passholders are used to it being free.

We've got to wait a month to see if some of tantalizing tidbits from midsummer scream are for real.

My assumption is The Keeper is going to be the horror host for a best of maze as they kept saying he was part of an “attraction” and that they wanted to make something harkening back to past mazes, without it feeling jumbled.

Logically using The Keeper as a host means they could keep the maze around for a few years too since it will have a general storyline that doesn’t translate to JUST an anniversary year.

Given that Ken Parks also referred to having The Green Witch headlining a house, show, and being on a ride, I could also see The Keeper being the host of the rumored anniversary show in the Walter Knott Theater too.

Yeah I hear you there. A host would a good linking device to different stories/scenes from the past, kind of like the crypt keeper in Tales from the Crypt.

There's a school of thought that they'll bring back the Hanging, but we'll see. I remember they did the old-school hanging at midnight during the 40th anniversary. That was quite sombre lol.

In the past it has been whenever they sell out.

Usually they sold out either just before the event started or a week or two into the event’s run.

I thought the panel great (quick) dive into the history of the event, which seems more than appropriate considering they are celebrating the 50th this year. They dropped quite a bit of info and news. They want to save their big reveals for the announcement night, which is fine. I don't love that it is $20 as opposed to the previous $0 it was, but it sold out in 15 minutes so I guess most people didn't mind.

It seems they are doing a little more this year with the announcement night since a few rides are open, there are costumes on display, etc.

Correct me if I am wrong (pandemic brain), but wasn’t the old announcement show for press and passholders exclusively?

Yep! That was strictly just the announcement in the theater. Media had a little reception area upstairs with food and interview opportunities. This year seems like a much bigger deal for the 50th, which is probably why they felt like they could charge for it.

Well, that and it’s now open to the public (an idea I like).

I would be interested to know what ends up being included for the $20? Like is there a post Q&A with the creators or a meet the creators styled experience?

I didn’t buy a ticket, but I am looking forward to seeing what the consensus ends up being.

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: I think you are able to kind of mosey around after the actual presentation. Pony Express and Ghostrider will be open. The wardrobe department will have something set up in the Town Hall building. There is some kind of 50th presentation at the Bird Cage Theater, new characters (?) along the Gold Mine Trail, access to the new Legacy Store, select food and drink available and a special gift as well.

Just a heads up: 2024 Scary Farm passes are available as an add-on for next year’s Season Passes.
